While on the Islands, Jim did a stint with Inter-Island and spent a few months flying Sikorsky clippers. Jim was checked out on the S-42 and S-43 the first part of September and then began flying routes between Honolulu, Kauai, Maui and Hilo.

Jim's last run was the Honolulu to Kauai loop on December 4, 1941. It was then time for him to return home and to Douglas.
